Slovenia Self Drive
Day 1: Arrive Ljubljana
Upon arrival at Ljubljana airport or train station you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Ljubljana.
Day 2: Ljubljana
Start your day with exploring the capital of Slovenia. Visit the most significant sights of the old city centre: the picturesque Central open-air Market and the Three Bridges, both designed by famous architect Joze Plecnik, Baroque Town Hall and Robba’s Fountain. Overnight in Ljubljana. (B)
Day 3: Ljubljana – Postojna Cave (53km) –Piran (74km)
Pick up your car this morning and depart to Piran. The day is reserved for the Karst region. Head out through the scenic countryside. Your first stop is at the Postojna Cave, one of the largest in Europe. Take a small train and discover the magic of the subterranean world with its stalactites and stalagmites and interesting animal living in the cave the “human-fish” (proteus anguinus). Then continue to Predjama Castle. This powerful medieval stronghold is perched in the middle of a cliff. Finally drive to Piran on the Slovenian coast. Overnight in Piran. (B)
Day 4: Piran – Lipica (45km) – Goriska Brda- Region (65km)
Enjoy your morning in the Piran area. You can visit Portoroz a popular tourist resort and then continue to see Secovlje Salt pans where they still produce salt as in the past. In the afternoon drive inland, pass Lipica where you can admire famous Lipizzaner horses then continue to the vineyard region of Goriska Brda where you have the chance to taste local cuisine and wines. Overnight in Goriska Brda. (B)
Day 5: Goriska Brda – Soča Valley – Trenta Valley – Vrsic Pass – Kranjska Gora – Bled (160km – 3.5 hours drive due to mountain roads if not stopping)
Today drive upstream the emerald green Soča River, through Kobarid where you can also stop and visit a WW1 museum. Your journey continues to Bled, passing Bovec, Trenta Valley, Vrsic Pass to Kranjska Gora. Overnight in Bled a peaceful town beautifully situated in the Julian Alps. (B)
Day 6: Bled
Bled is well known for its small island in the middle of emerald glacial lake and its castle perched on the cliff above the lake. Take the typical boat named “pletna” and visit the small island with the baroque church and toll the bell. Then you can visit the Bled castle, enter the museum or just enjoy a marvellous view of Bled and surrounding mountains. Drive to second Slovenian glacial lake – Lake Bohinj, where you can enjoy a walk around the lake, visit the Sheppard’s museum, the Savica waterfall or take a cable car to Mt. Vogel. Return to Bled for overnight stay. (B)
Day 7: Depart Ljubljana
Drop off your car at Ljubljana airport or Ljubljana downtown. (B)
